Director’s Note

Puffs is for all the nerds who dreamed of saving the world. I am one of those nerds who grew up on science fiction and fantasy stories, pretending I was a warrior fighting monsters and going on grand adventures. If I had received an acceptance letter to a school for magic, I would’ve thought it was the start of my hero journey, but like Wayne, I would just be a side character in someone else’s story. Growing up I often felt like a side character, never quite talented enough to be the protagonist. I think that is a common feeling, which is why Puffs is such a wonderful play. It shows how each of us is important in some way. Sometimes we may not even know how we helped someone out. One smile or one kind word can have a profound effect on someone when they are having a bad day. One teacher can change the trajectory of a student’s life. We don’t have to fight an evil wizard or be famous to have a positive impact on those around us. We just have to be ourselves and treat others with kindness to be a true hero.
