About the Show
After Callie meets Sara, the two unexpectedly fall in love. Their first kiss provokes a violent attack that transforms their lives in a way they could never anticipate.
I feel fortunate that I was able to direct Stop Kiss at Illinois State University. I have loved this play since the first time I read it and I continue to be drawn to Callie and Sara. I love watching their love story unfold. Through Son’s naturalistic dialogue, she paints a sweet picture of two women slowly falling in love. We get so swept away by their “meet cute” that it is difficult to imagine anything other than happily ever after for the two of them. But, just as in real life, reality has a way of crashing in when you least expect it. Life is short, and you never know when things will change irreparably. I hope audiences left the show with a desire to fight for what is important to them and cherish what they have. Don’t let fear stand in the way of pursuing what you want!
